KUALA LUMPUR: The wedding bells are ringing for Moots, the lead vocalist of rap-rock band Pop Shuvit and The Amazing Race Asia star, Vanessa Chong.
The couple are set to say ?I Do? in a private cliff wedding in Bali on Oct 15 next year.
?We haven?t chosen the exact venue in Bali yet,? Moots tells The Daily Chilli.
?But it?s definitely going to be a fun outdoor wedding in the remote area of Ulu Watu. We?re going to pick one of the villas owned by my business partner there. It?s next to the place where Julia Roberts shot Eat, Pray, Love.?
Vanessa finished second in the hit TV challenge with her younger sister Pamela in 2008.
She is also the eldest sister of Akademi Fantasia winner, Vince. And it was through Vince that the lovebirds first met in 2004.
?Vince and my band were label-mates in EMI,? Moots recollects.
Vanessa was his manager then.
But love didn?t happen until last year.
The rock star DJ of Hitz FM only realised that he had a ?thing? for Vanessa when he met Japanese-American magician, Cyril, who was filming his magic show here and (unintentionally) confided in Cyril about his feelings for her.
?Cyril said `If you like her, why not you ask her out?? I took his advice and asked Vanessa out on a date and she said yes,? he beams.
?It?s quite cool how it happened,? she adds.
?Maybe it?s our age. Both of us are already in our 30s. But it?s not desperation. It?s just that we?ve been through a lot in life.?
No one could be happier for them than Vince, who always joked about having a macha (brother in Tamil).
?Vince has a lot of close Indian friends and he likes to say `I want to have my own macha,? laughs Moots. ?Now I?m really going to be his macha.?
No issues with the big boys of Pop Shuvit either. AJ (bassist), JD (guitarist), Rudy (drummer) and Uno (turntables) adore Vanessa.
?They?re so glad she?s taking me off their hands,? he jokes.
Moots and Vanessa will celebrate their union in Chinese, Indian as well as English styles - starting with their engagement party on Jan 21 in Petaling Jaya.
?It?s themed Bollywood kungfu,? Vanessa quipped.
